The island platform is so close to Cortlandt St that the island platform would probably have been abandoned, with the stub end tracks extended along what's now the connecting pedestrian passageway to merge into the BMT tracks at the north end of Cortlandt St, via an at grade junction. Both BMT and IND trains would share the same track between Cortlandt and Whitehall. An interesting possibilty is that at the same time an IND train branched off towards Court St south of Whitehall, a BMT train from Broad St could merge into the slot vacated by the IND train and continue on to Montague St, along with BMT trains from Whitehall. Fantasy subway!
