Re: Atlantic City Line

I can see them cutting it back to Lindenwold, but a full abandonment? No. What kills it is its poor frequency, its circuitous route to Philadelphia, and that it doesn't directly serve Downtown Philadelphia.

There's demand for travel between Philadelphia and Atlantic City as evidenced by how busy the 551 and Greyhound buses between the two cities get, the railroad just does a poor job at catering to that demand. The 551 runs about every 30-60 minutes 24/7, and would already be dropping you off in Downtown Philadelphia by the time the train gets to the Delaware River.

In my completely fantasy world, NJ Transit's "Atlantic City Line" service would be abandoned, replaced with PATCO trains running between Downtown Philly and Atlantic City, as well as River Line trains between Trenton and Atlantic City through a new junction in Pennsauken. Foamer-ific!
