Could it possibly be because prior to the opening of 57th/6th, this short stretch was not yet revenue trackage*, only being used for layups and storage, and so was originally designated with the B5/B6 to be consistent with existing chaining designations?

*then one can ask the question, when exactly were tracks installed.
