Extending platforms, especially at underground stations, reconfiguring the Corona shops to accomidate 12 cars would cost billions, not to mention the cost of extra equiptment to make 12 car consists.
The long term fix (IMO) for the Flushing line is to replace the 120Y/O Steinway tunnel with one built to B division specs, shave back the platforms & turn over the Flushing line to the B division with its wider cars. The billions needed would be put to better use.
Wider cars would sure come in handy if the Airtrain is ever built to Willets Point & passengers come on loaded with baggage.
