PATH tunnels under the Hudson are older than the Steinways? Did not know that. However, the Steinway's handle appx 36 TPH in the rush hr. The PATH tunnels run nowhere near that amount of traffic. The amount of traffic and stress & vibratons coupled with age makes the Steinways more vulnerable to traffic induced damage, therefore a good candidate for replacement.
