Service is discontinued on the original cable-hauled 9th Avenue El. The cable had been subject to frequent breakdowns and the company was unable to meet its financial obligations.

151st Station on the 9th Avenue El opens. This will be the last new station to open on the original section of the el.

The famous Brill “Bullets”interurban cars begin service on the P & W Norristown. The Bullets were all built in 1931 and are numbered 200-209. Car 203 was destroyed in 1933 and a replacement car with the same number entered service in 1934.

The first train of R-27’s entered service today on BMT Rt. QT Broadway-Brighton Local via Tunnel (BMT Rt. 1). It left from Prospect Park as a passenger special.
It ran nonstop to Chambers Street via the bridge and then via the tunnel to Lawrence Street. It then made all local stops to Coney Island and entered regular service later in the day. The consist was 8027-6, 8025-4, 8021-0 and 8028-9.

The lower level express platforms at the 59th Street Station of the IRT Lexington Avenue Line open today. A train of the brand new Redbirds was on hand and carried passengers to Bowling Green Station.

On or about this date the first of the R-33 Redbirds begins regular service on the No. 1 Broadway - 7th Avenue Local.

Tuscarora Almanac – November 15, 1971 – The Book of First Runs

Eight R-1/9’s have been repainted and overhauled for use on the museum trains. The numbers are 100, 103, 381, 484, 800, 1208 and 1440. 1802 is in the shops for similar treatment.
