67 Foot Steel subway cars are assigned to the No. 10 Myrtle Avenue-Chambers Street Line. The No. 10 had been using wooden Gate Cars since it began operating in 1914.

148th Street-Lenox Terminal opens for service. It is located in the Lenox Avenue Yard with an entrance at West 149th Street and Seventh Avenue. It will be served by No. 3 trains at all times.

The Long Island Railroad closes seven stations today. Five are on the Montauk Branch in Queens; Penny Bridge, Haberman, Fresh Pond, Glendale and Richmond Hill. Also closed are Mill Neck on the Oyster Bay Branch and Holtsville on the Mainline.
