Re: Tuscarora Almanac for March 13

The old rule was that any line that passed through Brooklyn enroute to Manhattan was to be considered northbound regardless of its point of origin and the tracks are numbered accordingly. It does make sense since had the Fulton St el been connected to the BMT subway at Ashland Pl it would have been using the northbound tracks of the 4 Av abd Bway subways to access Manhattan. As it is even now, the A line while somewhat physically southbound lvg Lefferts since it is northbound on the principal 8 Av Line in Manhattan. The original KK and K services originating at Jamaica and E/Pky were also actually northbound since they operated on the northbound tks of the iND 6 Av line. The only reason that the Jamaica (QJ) Line and later the M Line were changed to S/B lvg Jamaica and Met was to eliminate confusion when the trains operated in the Southern Division where they were truly southbound. With the removal of the M from the southern Div and its routing into the IND it is now back to being what it was always supposed to be, northbound lvg Met. Also now that the J is also removed from the Southern [Div and unlikely to return, it should be redesignated northbound to Broad and southbound to Jamaica like its supposed to be to match the rest of the BMT Eastern.
