Posted by Dutchrailnut on Tue Oct 30 09:37:30 2018, in response to Re: Tour of East Side Abscess New LIRR Terminal Taking Shape Beneath Grand Central Terminal, posted by Avid Reader on Tue Oct 30 09:22:03 2018. the lower loops are permanently gone now, west side went trough old Madison avenue yard, which is now the new ESA LIRR station hall.the track is still accessible from east end and used in winter to store ballast hoppers with stone to prevent them from freezing. the inner loop was out of service for decades and only accessible to cars far shorter than 85 foot. only active GCT loop is on upper level. |
