Re: Tour of East Side Abscess New LIRR Terminal Taking Shape Beneath Grand Central Terminal

Yeah this summer the Amtraks left from Track 24. They all arrived on 38 AFAIK.
Last summer all arrivals and departures left from 38.

I believe the frequency was low enough in '17 that they could drop off passengers S/B on 38, turn the train around the loop, bring it up the east side landers to CP1, reverse back down to 38, and pick up passengers N/B
In '18 they increased the number of trains such that this was no longer possible. S/B trains would still discharge passengers on 38 but when they reversed at CP1 they'd back in to 24 to pick-up pax for their N/B runs. This allowed 38 to be freed up earlier.
The '18 pattern also allowed amtrak passengers to wait in the main concourse, which was somewhat nicer than the low-ceiling area out by 38
