It might not be a bad idea to have a truly regional commuter RR system which would include NJT, MN and LIRR It would be a terrible idea. Centralization has made things progressively worse. Its success would be contingent however on having COMPETENT (and I do mean COMPETENT) and exhaustively encyclopedically knowledgable management to run the mega agency That never happens in government.
