Pardon mon brainfart! Robert Moses, Scrap Commissioner (among other titles!), wanted to scrap the 159th St yard. However, there were a few ancient el cars which had been abandonded and stranded, when the rails were stripped for other lines or for the War effort. When he attempted to remove them by crane, the Feds stopped the removal. According to them, every railcar in the USAhad to be evaluated, before it was scrapped. I don't know what happened after that. i know that the War production board wanted them towed to the jerome line center track to be evaluated. Did this ever happen?
