I clearly remember riding one R-10 (E) train from Queens to Manhattan in the summer of 1980, which had severely flattened wheels. The train went BANG BANG BANG all the way into the city. That year, equipment went everywhere, to try and make up for shortages while the R-46s were being fixed. I remember some R-46s ended up on the (CC), and even R-32s on the (E) and (AA).
