In all my time both riding the BMT from the late 1950s and working on the BMT from the mid 1960s on, I never heard the terms “standards” or “triplexes” use by operating personnel. In the Southern Division, the 67 ft cars were referred to as “ABs” and the triplexes ad “Ds.” In the Eastern Division since there were no D types in regular service there, the 67 ft cars were referred to as “steels” and when the Multis came in they were referred to as “Multis.” From the 1950s to the present, I never heard any other terms used to describe the prewar BMT rolling stock. Since by the time I started working for the TA, with the exception of the Culver Shuttle. all the ABs were in the Eastern I personally referred to them as “steels” since I worked mostly in the Eastern.
