They've since amended the pension legislation, if one is convicted of a felony in office (or something to that effect) they lose the state pension (thank Hevesi for being the reason the law was changed). Because the NYS constitution prohibits retroactive pension reductions, this change can only take effect for people who joined the retirement system after it passed. So while crooked officials will continue to draw pensions after conviction of crimes, at least in 20 years the problem will largely have gone away. |
