What the company doesn't understand is that you can't run a commuter railroad like a retail or restaurant business. If a customer is not 100% satisfied with their meal, it is usually a rare occurrence, and isolated to one customer. If you let someone ride the train for free or waive the on board penalty, there was no poor product or service to warrant that. And if a train turns out to be delayed, how can you let one or two people out of hundreds ride for free or for less than what the others paid? How many people walk into a McDonald's and ask for free food or a discount for the food? It's apples and oranges when comparing transit to restaurants/retail... |
