Private industry offers substantially higher salaries, substantially better working conditions, and substantially higher risk than public service.My point is that we're being very selective when we look at the nice parts of union jobs and cry about how anyone who contributes to a pension plan is a freeloader because their benefits are guaranteed (while forgetting that for the 30+ years they work in that field that person earns a salary that makes it difficult to raise a family on and puts up with a working environment those in private industry can't even imagine) or that person is greedy when the union asks for a raise (when we would never say that about a private employee who asks his/her boss for more money). |
