I can see it now.......

1. If the app crashes, the passenger thinks of some cockamamie story on how they tried to purchase their ticket, had it purchased, but the app crashed and now they do not have it. And the Conductor gets tha blame for the crash (as we get blamed for EVERYTHING!!)

2. Having someone forward the one purchased ticket to a few friends and then they all get to use it (aka, take one ride, pass it around!! I sure hope they took measures to prevent this.....probably not!!)

3. Claiming how they purchased their ticket, but then their phone died, and if we can just let them go.

4. When a card gets declined, blame our software or app, or as usual blame the Conductor or crew members, rather than admit they maxed out their card, or used a debit card linked to an overdrawn bank account.

5. Purchase a disablity/senior fare, and when asked to show proof, they present a scan or cell pic of their (or should I say supposedly their own) disability card or proof.

6. Much as Dutchrailbut said, work your way thru an understaffed train (I will use a Stamford Local), have a passenger who boarded at Stamford, but not be reached until Larchmont, and the person then purchases a Larchmont-GCT ticket.

7. Do a "one-fare-sweep" train like #1570, purchase a GCT to East Norwalk ticket, move about the train because their destination is not East Norwalk, buit actually New Haven!!

Aye dios mio........"technology"!!! X-P

I weep for the day that technology becomes rendered useless......what will humanity do to survive??

Slowly and surely, the end of humanity in railroading begins!!! Fare collection methods like this, TVMs, remote control switching (freight), CBTC, "Robotrains" (AirTrain, etc.) are just the beginning! But I guess in some ways we should only blame ourselves, us the transit/rail folks!! Had the vast number of screw-ups among us been doing our jobs properly ALL THE TIME (i.e., not sleeping, not operating while heavily distracted, being more diligent to duty, etc.), agencies and companies would not have undertaken looking for technology to do what we, as humans and railroaders/transit pros, should be doing properly. :-(
