The duplicate sections can use the same power source for AC and DC distribution. The infrastructure for third rail is already there. Adding AC catenary won't be that costly. Besides, running on diesel power where there is third rail is already a waste of dough, especially if Empire service becomes more frequent. total changeover by Metro-North from third rail to overhead. As long as they use Grand Central, that's not going to happen and not necessary. |
