Please note that in both cases, I believe that we are proposing that the D-train is running along Eighth Avenue - even if that was not stated at the beginning.

I thought about the D, E and F trains all running local from 59th Street to West 4th Street - and I thought would be a bit much. I also wanted to not change the usual running of each line as much as possible, while providing connections among the various segments.

The Spring Street station was a difficult one to provide service to, if the A and E trains were not running or running express. Nor did I really want to create a hybrid line - merging the Q-train with something like the E or F. Can be confusing to the riders. Plus running the E-train down the BMT Broadway line to Whitehall Street is the accepted option when it can not run down Eighth Avenue.

This is an interesting exercise showing both the flexibility as well as the limitations.

Mike
