I think Jet Blue will swallow up American Airlines, they're already partnering up in many way and Jet Blue has started entering many areas where American has long dominated, and with American purchasing a massive new fleet by Jet Blue acquiring American they get not only a lot more terminals but a huge fleet expansion to boot. Jet Blues reputation would be fantastic and would give the other major carriers a MAJOR ass kicking. |

American Airlines is over 3 times the size of JetBlue. In addition, JetBlue's business model mirrors that of Southwest Airlines. I can't see it happening. |

If anything, it will be US Airways acquiring AA. But even then, the premise in the article will be false, because US Airways chairman Doug Parker has stated that in a US-AA merger, American Airlines will be the surviving brand. And B6 isn't going to touch AA, not when they are kicking their ass handily in San Juan. So the American Airlines brand will be around unless they collapse completely (which is possible). |

The name "American Airlines" is unlikely to disappear, as it is known worldwide. If US Airways does acquire them, they will probably drop the name US Airways and keep the AA moniker. US Airways is actually the old America West Airlines. America West bought US Airways but chose to keep the US Airways name. |

If you take a look at LAN Chile, they have done a very good job of managing multiple models, which is what Jet Blue could do after a merger with AA.LAN runs local low cost carriers within the domestic markets in South America and also a distinct high-margin international airline as well a a substantial cargo business. They are generally regarded as the best run airline in the western hemisphere. AA's international routes (supplemented by the alliance with BA and Iberia) coupled with a Jet Blue approach to the US domestic market following LAN's approach could potentially work. |

Well, I was wrong on those two, at least in the USA for the first. The latter merging with Al Jazeera was worse than I thought. As for the OP, AA is very much still there. |
