How do think they'll do on FM?Sports isn't doing so great in Philly and that's a "sports town". The problem with sports radio is that it's the same people listening all day. |

Also love the discussion shows that discussed various issues that was going on in the world. |

If ESPN Radio can snag the Yankees broadcast rights which will come up for renewal this year or next, from the AM signal of WCBS, that could really put a dent in CBS Radio. This gives ESPN Radio a much stronger signal. |

They'll either move it or make it a digital station on 107.5.5 Digital means you have to buy a digital radio for about $125 to hear the subchannel(.5) The KISS brand is too valuable to throw away. |

Or they can keep the KISS format on 98.7 HD-2, which currently airs a Caribbean format. It's not unheard of for a former format to be heard on the HD-2 signal of a station they no longer own...last I heard, 101.9 HD-2 was still airing smooth jazz from the CD-101.9 format. The only difference here is that most HD-2 and HD-3 stations are run on the cheap...either running automated or syndicated programming or simulcasting AM stations...Kiss was more of a personality and community driven format, hard to duplicate with no budget... |

Actually, my mistake...it was a South Asian format on HD-2...and word is, they did change the HD channels on 98.7 as of midnight last night. According to Fybush.com's Northeast Radio Watch:>>What about those HD subchannels? Emmis has been leasing 98.7-HD2 to “Hum Desi Radio,” which programs to New York’s Indian community, but over the weekend Hum Desi shifted to WQHT’s 97.1-HD2, displacing “MyRXP,” the rock stream that was the last surviving bit of the old WRXP (101.9) in its pre-Merlin days. As of Sunday, 98.7-HD2 was carrying dead air, as was a new 98.7-HD3; at midnight, they lit up under ESPN control with ESPN Deportes on HD2 and the national ESPN News feed on HD3<< |

The radio industry is aggressively promoting HD radio.I strongly disagree. Except for an occasional commercial on the regular radio stations promoting it, it's very rarely mentioned. And while some new cars have HD radio included, the programming is obviously extremely lacking, otherwise word would have spread like wildfire like it did after satellite radio was introduced. NY is big enough and diverse enough to support original programming on an HD channel. While that might be true, it is not the case. As I said earlier, the HD channels are an "afterthought" for the broadcasters at the moment...as examples: there were times when 106.7 HD-2 was off the air for days at a time due to technical issues, and nobody seemed to care, WPLJ HD-2 broadcasts the Scott Shannon True Oldies Channel network, and they broadcast in MONO! When I asked one of the engineers at PLJ, he gave me some cock and bull story about limited bandwith because they have an HD-3 as well. I say "cock and bull" because by some miracle, other stations like WNYC are able to broadcast their HD-2 in stereo while still airing an HD-3 as well....Aside from all that: unless they build ALL radios that have the HD 2 and 3 channels available, the general public will most likeley not shell out the extra money for a special radio that offers nothing out of the ordinary (like commercial free music or other features that satellite radio offers)... |

I know I've heard tons of industry ads promoting HD. In Tampa, WLFA 970 AM always hypes up the fact that they are simulcasting on an FM HD. Some ads carefully explain what people must do and how cheap it is to get HD channels. |
