The first of three good ideas by Rick Perry. The second was dropping out of the presidential race. The third was um, um…I'll have to get back to you on that one. |

The fact the it's not the greatest cause of cervical cancer doesn't mean that it should be ignored. Women who are in high risk groups may not be aware of that status unless it is discussed with a health practitioner. Beside which, cervical cancer or cancer in general is not the only risk women face. Progesterone based contraceptives also come with a risk of causing hypertension, stroke and heart attack. I realize that the clerk at Walmart can tell the woman about the risks but is that same person working the register going to do the screening too? |

Aw, this is George Carlin's "Birth Control" routine come to life . . .Birth control pills. That's part of the drug scene, isn't it? You have to count them. The entire female population of the US is being used as the guinea pigs to find out if birth control pills are gonna have any side effects or not. Isn't that nice. Really, if every lady who used them gets to 61 and one leg gets shorter than the other one...better call the pills back. Birth control pills are still on prescription. You still need a note to get laid. It's so bad. Not only do you need a note, you gotta go to one guy to get the note, and you gotta bring it to another guy. Everybody's in on it, y'know. Ladies must feel silly goin' up.. "Here's my note. Hmm.." "Oh, that's what you're doing at home, eh? Well, uh, we're keeping a record of it here in the store. Late at night, I read them." |

The risks are at the level of OTC drugs. Hence....No matter, it's not going to happen yet, not while the medical establishment gets to make money getting women in to see doctors unnecessarily. Maybe after "Obamacare" kicks in... |

It may not be good policy to allow drugs to be sold over the counter when they can have very serious side effects. But then why it is OK for people to suffer liver damage from acetominophen? |

I suspect that many over the counter drugs can have serious side effects if they are used improperly or used to excess. I suspect that the dangers and benefits were weighed before Tylenol was okayed to be sold over the counter. However, you make my point. When was the last time you bought a bottle of Tylenol and were told by the check-out girl at PATHMARK that there are potential side effects? My contention is that the potential dangers posed by oral contraceptives is enough reason for continued distribution via prescription and under the close supervision and monitoring of a licensed medical practitioner. |
