SOME THINGS NEVER WANT TO CHANGE IN THE DEEP SOUTH |
|
Posted by streetcarman1 on Fri Mar 16 10:07:39 2012 To GP38Chris who so loves that General Lee car for what it stands, here a story you'll love too:From CNN.COM: Southern Miss issues apology for band's derogatory chant at NCAA tournament By Lateef Mungin , CNN 2012-03-16T04:28:42Z The incident was captured by television cameras and occurred during the Southern Miss and Kansas State game at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As Kansas State point guard Angel Rodriguez shot free throws, several people can clearly be heard saying the green card chant. Rodriguez did not change his expression during the chants and helped push Kansas State to a victory by scoring 13 points. Southern Miss president Martha Saunders issued an apology. "We deeply regret the remarks made by a few students at today's game," Saunders said in a statement posted on the school's website. "The words of these individuals do not represent the sentiments of our pep band, athletic department or university. We apologize to Mr. Rodriguez and will take quick and appropriate disciplinary action against the students involved in this isolated incident." The eighth-seeded Kansas State Wildcats beat the ninth-seeded Southern Miss Golden Eagles 70-64, knocking them out of the tournament. |

"nahhhh....it's just the illegals they don't want."The issue here is ...someone who LOOKS HISPANIC is automatically thought to be illegal....that is the point I am making. This is actually the same racially charge statement from this editor: Jeremy Lin slur was ‘honest mistake' IRVING DEJOHN, HELEN KENNEDY Monday, February 20, 2012 The ESPN editor fired Sunday for using "chink in the armor" in a headline about Knicks phenom Jeremy Lin said the racial slur never crossed his mind - and he was devastated when he realized his mistake. "This had nothing to do with me being cute or punny," Anthony Federico told the Daily News. "I'm so sorry that I offended people. I'm so sorry if I offended Jeremy." The headline - "Chink in the Armor: Jeremy Lin's 9 Turnovers Cost Knicks in Streak-stopping Loss to Hornets" - appeared on ESPN's mobile website at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday and was removed by 3:05 a. Once again:Southerners, mostly of Ulster Scot ancestry, are less outbred and have fewer genes for reciprocal altruism and more "kin-altruism" genes. They are less likely to tolerate other groups and quite likely always will. Maybe fighting the Civil War was a mistake... |

You picked one humdinger of an example. We pulled out of the Philippines and gave them their independence, after their rose up against us. We realized it wasn't worth keeping. In essence, we did exactly what I'm saying we should have did with the South. Though to be fair, had we had allowed the Confederate States of America to continue to exist as independent country, militarily the United States wouldn't have been in a much worse position globally, especially during the subsequent wars, such as the Spanish-American War and WW I & WW II. |

We pulled out of the Philippines and gave them their independence, after their rose up against us.Incorrect. We granted them independence in 1946, right after WW2 when American-Filipino relations were at an all-time high and we had no reason to believe they would stab us in the back which in fact never happened unlike with the treasonous Southern States. We crushed them in the first part of the 20th century. |

We crushed them in the first part of the 20th century.Remind me not to trust anything I learned in history class at school without researching it again myself (not that it was discussed in depth). :p Having the former CSA under our control but disenfranchised would have been unworkable in the long term (how do you reconcile that with American principles?) And ultimately, while the ethno-religious basis... (And of course there's these maps:) ...of the political contention between the two parts of the country may be problematic, and may well lead to greater issues down the line, over all, it probably benefited the country. Make no mistake however, Red America (mostly Scots-Irish and Evangelical Lutheran German/Scandinavian, and English Mormons) has a substantial ethnic rift with Blue America (mostly lowland English, Ashkenazi Jewish, and "liberal" German/Scandis). Hence, the problem isn't going to go away any time soon, and if anything might get worse. The South and Plains want to live their own way, the problem is, because we're one nation, we're dragged into it. It seems tempting to let them go do it, so the liberal North need not be dragged down by them anymore. But then we have a rest of the world to deal with, and having our fleet able to operate out of Southern naval bases is nice... |

It's their land; they stole it fair and square don't you know... ;) More accurately, their forefathers fought and died for the land, fair and square... :\Though in reality, the European colonization of the Americas was only the most recent in a series of population replacements here. Today's "Native" Americans may be descendants of a wave of settlers that came across the Bering Straight 12-15,000 years ago, replacing earlier settlers that may have came across 50,000 years ago. Modern Europeans themselves are descendants of farming Middle Easterners who largely replaced the Paleolithic European hunter-gatherers, arriving ~8,000 years ago. This wasn't due to peaceful diffusion of the newcomers into the lands of the previously established groups. Here's a cool map (clickable): The two main groups shown here originate from the Middle East and the Caucasus. Of course, it could be argued that we're in the midst of another population replacement, as Mestizo Mexicans and other Latin American immigrants replace the European groups. |
