I think he's had enough. Prepare for default. Apparently the Dem plan is to default, then blame Republicans.

Prepare for default? It will be a violation of the constitution to go into default, thus Obama will use the nuke option and raise it using executive authority. The republicans will have suffered an embarrassing setback as Obama pulls out the leadership card and says "when republicans tried to intentionally hurt the economy I stepped in and stopped it"

Well, I think people making $400,000 or more a year could afford to pay an addition 2%. 35% to 37% won't hurt that level of wealth.

Trust me, I have problems with many entitlements. Especially foreign aid.

I think Obama sounds like an idiot talking about "radio show hosts" in his statement after talks broke down. I think the GOP needs to understand that the top tax brackets could afford a little more. Especially people in the 15% cap gains bracket!

So much to the point that Senate republicans have gotten agitated over it. Now you said "The GOP has to agree to some tax increases. Something. Not as drastic as what the Dems want, but something."

Why should only the middle and lower class pay for this debt? Do you support the middle class getting wiped off the map? I guess you do, I guess you dont give a damn about the middle class, or the elderly or the children of this nation. You think tax cuts are going to save this nation. Why can't Obama concede that he can't get a tax increase passed and look for alternatives?

The GOP has already meet the President halfway. They've agreed to permit the debt limit to be raised. They've agreed to defense spending cuts. They've agreed to nearly $800 billion in new revenues. The only thing they will not concede on is a tax increase. Can you name three concessions the President and the Democrats have made?

Tax increases are a non-starter. Forget the debate for a second. If the President knows he can't get the GOP to budge on this issue, why is he not accepting reality and seeking alternatives? Where's the leadership?

Cause you need to increase revenue...period. You can't simple keep cutting away at the revenue stream then further decrease and decrease then you lose more and more funding. I know the GOP is out for smaller government, but its been proven again government oversight is absolutely necessary in some aspects. If banks could govern themselves properly, if giant comapnies could not try to brazenly break environmental laws then lobby to take away funding from the EPA. If corporate america were a tad bit honest then a smaller government would easily be justifiable, HOWEVER. When you get poisoned wells from fracking, a banking industry that sends out foreclosure notices or credit rating agencies that outsource to India there is a problem and thats when government oversight is needed. To fund 2 wars requires money, to upgrade the nations infrastructure requires money.

If you cut and cut and cut, how do such things get funded.

Are you willing to risk a smaller government and trust that whats being told to you by the banks and companies drilling by your well to tell you the truth? Are you willing to take cuts to your medicare or have to pay more and get a private provider?

I'm asking you these questions because once you start cutting then say balance then you need to cut further due to inflation.

Keep in mind, when we talk about raising federal taxes on the rich, fed bracket of 35% going up to 39.5% plus local cities and states talking about another 3-5% increase and where're talking about an additional 8-10% on top of what the top bracket is already paying.

That's close to 45% effective for the top earners. That's why Republicans fight increases.

That's BS. You don't have to increase taxes to pay out debt obligations. We bring in trillions more in revenues than we need to meet obligations every year. What the President wants is to spend more, plain and simple.

White House officials talked about raising the Medicare eligibility age, cutting Social Security by changing the inflation index, freezing domestic discretionary spending and offering to pre-empt the end of the Bush tax cuts in exchange for a broad changes to the tax code.

Say what now? I've named more than 1... the ball is in your court
