I learned that apparently I'm a "moral relativist."There are worse things that you can be. I know that I'm being a moral relativist everytime that I say that the death of innocent Afghan children in a bombing gone awry is better than the death of innocent Americans. The whole "better them than us" argument. I recognize that I'm engaging in a self-serving rationale. The trick is to do it only when when the alternative is far more horrible. Then it becomes a more pragmatic form of moral relativism. Still bad though. |

Taking the two lines of fact, 60% of black pregnancies are aborted...per the subject line that's nyc alone I assume. Your second line is of all abortions in the us, which is nationwide and of all races. 36% of ALL abortions is low, but it's not the same thing as just going into the Black subsect. This would be easier to do with a pie chart that overlaps if I wasn't clear enough. However, if you are 13% of the population and you are doing something that is 36% of the country, which is between a third and nearing a half, that's huge. If the jews were 6% of the population and they had 15% of the money, imagine the conspiracy theories.... That's almost the same in terms of numbers. |

It's just not a fun topic to talk about when drinking (or even not drinking). |

I don't aligning politically necessarily really matters, although that also depends on the severity of the two people in regards to their political dogma. |

Both are Catholic, however my mom is much more conservative than my dad (my mom goes to Church for spiritual well-being, my dad goes to church for socialization). My mom is also a registered Republican wheras my dad is a registered Democrat. My mom RARELY EVER discusses politics (and whenever I discuss anything politics related with her, she comes up with a more generic Republican, right leaning, response). My Dad is very open to a political discussion but he generally takes a far left Democratic response. I probably discuss politics with my parents more than they discuss it with one another, especially as they have differing viewpoints on it. |

This is true of individuals and of nations and ethnic/racial groups. Now does this mean IQ always predicts ones success in the working world? Of course not, other factors such as creativity, personality traits such as tenacity, and luck come into play. But higher IQ people as a group certainly do better than those groups who have lower IQ's. IQ (and things correlated with it) successfully explain a host of things, things not explained by any other theory of social development without a host of complicating fudge factors that are often nonsensical. Families were larger just a couple of generations ago and that they are now smaller isn't due to everyone becoming smarter over that time. Strictly speaking that is not true thanks to something known as the Flynn Effect. But even that aside, yes, it is true that birth rates are lower now than they were in the past, particularly during the Baby Boom, but just before that the US experienced a generational trough due to the Great Depression (people were having fewer children). Even though before the Depression, birth rates were higher during than during the boom, this can be explained by the appearance of birth control. And, in the States, as far as the CDC has been keeping records, the black birth rate has significantly exceeded that of whites (see here for recent lifetime birth rates – note how the white birth rate hovers around the replacement value of 2.1 children born per child-bearing woman, and is exceeded by most minorities -- in the case of Hispanics, greatly exceeded). So while it is fair to say that overall birthrate in any given era is not determined by IQ, the relative birthrate certainly is correlated to it. |
