They and their families will have their faith in government severely damaged. Just for the purpose of letting the babies have their bottle? If a SAVE Act gets passed, it ought to be for 2 years out, so that people have the time to send their letters to all the local county and town clerks, and get their official birth certificates in return. PS. Consider how long Congress gave people to get Real ID, before they finally made it mandatory for flying. Why should a new voter registration requirement have a shorter deadline? |

When they do vote, they are poorly informed and choose candidates for office and positions on referenda for the stupidest fucking reasons.I don’t think these people ought to be explicitly disenfranchised, but if they find it so inconvenient to get a non-driver ID, then maybe they’re not motivated enough for civic participation. As for your inevitable argument that it’s hard to get a birth certificate for some people, then maybe there can be pro bono legal clinics that help people with that. I don’t think it’s a prevalent problem. |
