So, if I am correct, your argument is that (a) most voters can prove their citizenship easily and quickly and (b) the ones who get unfairly disqualified are all over the political spectrum, so neither party is disadvantaged to excess. And then there will be more faith in the honesty of elections.But what about the 1%, give or take, who can't easily and quickly prove their citizenship? They and their families will have their faith in government severely damaged. Just for the purpose of letting the babies have their bottle? If a SAVE Act gets passed, it ought to be for 2 years out, so that people have the time to send their letters to all the local county and town clerks, and get their official birth certificates in return. PS. Consider how long Congress gave people to get Real ID, before they finally made it mandatory for flying. Why should a new voter registration requirement have a shorter deadline? |
