This paragraph is deeply offensive:"ICE's presence in Bushwick is deeply alarming. If you see ICE in your neighborhood, call or text the Hands Off NYC hotline: 229-304-8720. To our neighbors who quickly mobilized last night, thank you for making it loud and clear that ICE is not welcome in Brooklyn," Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso reacted on social media. They're treating ICE like some criminal mob. Now, I did complain about their tactics in Minnesota, but this is disgusting. ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE NOT YOUR CONSTITUENTS! |

But that's the thing, the current Democrat Party DOES think that illegals are their constituents!!! They know that all of their legal friends and family will vote for them if they carry in these charades. |

If ICE followed the instructions that Trump has publicly given them (concentrate on aliens charged with crimes), people would be less hostile to them. But ICE management finds it more convenient to spend most of its resources on aliens who have never been charged with a crime. And of course many Democratic politicians don't bother to make the distinction either. |

Of course, you ignorant mother-fucker, you obviously overlooked the fact that this particular illegel immigrant has been previously arrested for drug offenses and assault. I wonder how much of that is self-inflicted? In LA for example law enforcement and courts refuse to cooperate so that ICE can arrest and deport criminals. So ICE has no way to easily detain criminals. The second option is to do all of the things that people are upset about. Self-inflicted.Yet in red states and purple cities I never hear about ICE using those same tactics. Is that because they don't need to because law enforcement and courts in those jurisdictions are cooperating with them? This is a significant cultural shift over the last couple of decades in the way that laws are enforced and how cooperation, or lack thereof, occurs. It started when Obama was President. |

It's not just Trump. The entire management of DHS says they have one goal (removing criminals) but 90% of their focus is on another goal(removing overstayers). They are fairly successfully deceiving large parts of the public about this. It's simply a scam.Further, ICE goes way beyond what it is mandated to do. They have changed administrative procedures in ways that are totally contrary to what Congress allows. They have frequently also violated their own administrative procedures. |

From Gemini:New York City jails generally do not cooperate with ICE for civil immigration enforcement, though there have been significant recent shifts and legal battles regarding this policy.Under NYC's sanctuary laws, the Department of Correction (DOC) is largely prohibited from honoring ICE "detainers"—requests to hold someone for 48 hours after their scheduled release. However, the level of cooperation depends on the nature of the charges and the specific facility.Current Cooperation Policies (May 2026)Restricted Detainers: The DOC is generally barred from honoring ICE detainers unless they are accompanied by a judicial warrant or the individual has been convicted of certain "violent or serious" crimes. In 2025, for instance, the DOC honored only 25 out of nearly 900 ICE detainer requests.Federal Presence at Rikers Island: While ICE was previously restricted from operating at Rikers Island, Mayor Eric Adams issued an executive order in 2025 allowing federal agents access specifically for criminal investigations involving transnational gangs, violent crime, or drug trafficking.Legal Challenges & Oversight: The Safer Sanctuary Act was passed in early 2026 to prevent future administrations from easily circumventing sanctuary laws, while other proposed legislation (Intro 0515-2026) aims to repeal these very |

From Google AI:Overstaying a U.S. visa (or I-94) voids the visa, triggers automatic unlawful presence, and can lead to immediate removal proceedings. Penalties include 3-year bars (180+ days overstay) or 10-year bars (1+ year overstay) on re-entry. Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens may sometimes adjust status. Once again you are wrong. No. Crimes are specifically classified as such and are considered worse than mere violations of law. It's not that traffic is a special thing where you can get a summons for an infraction that's not a crime, there are other things, like open container violations, littering, etc. It's a meaningful distinction, it's what separates other people from "criminals." |
