Lets not lose siggt of the fact that the actual strike did not bring down the WTC towers. It was the burning jet fuel that softened the steel super-structure. |

My point was to point out the flimsy (by comparison) appearance of those stick towers v/s the solid construction of the WTC and how they would stand up to a similar assault that happened on 9/11 |

That wasn't jet fuel, the jet fuel all burned or evaporated within seconds. The resulting fire continued to burn for MONTHS after the collapse. That was the smell, and it was much worse than burning jet fuel, which would have minimal health effects. Jet fuel is a hydrocarbon just like gasoline, just the carbon chains tend to be longer. The combustion byproducts are the same. |

The combustion byproducts are the same. But the smell of burning kerosene is definitely somewhat different from the smell of burning gasoline. Probably because of imperfect combustion. |

When the planes hit the north tower, ignited jet fuel spilled down the elevator shafts into the elevators as the elevators went into free fall having their cables cut. Those poor souls inside those elevators were incinerated. What a horrible way to go. Point being, the smell of jet fuel permeated the North Tower lobby via the elevator shafts. Just because jet fuel is ignited doesn't mean that there wont be any leftover jet fuel smell. |

Google AI Overview"The World Trade Center towers collapsed due to the combined effects of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001: the aircraft impacts caused significant structural damage and dislodged fireproofing from steel structures, and the subsequent fires, fueled by jet fuel, severely weakened the remaining steel, causing floors to sag and pull inward, leading to the eventual buckling of structural columns and a progressive, total collapse. Aircraft Impacts: The plane crashes damaged and severed steel support columns and dislodged the fireproofing material that protected them. The impacts also cut off water lines to the automatic fire sprinkler systems, preventing them from functioning. Fires: The burning jet fuel ignited large, multi-floor fires. These fires reached temperatures high enough to weaken the steel structures, particularly where the fireproofing had been dislodged. Progressive Collapse: As the steel structures weakened, the floors sagged and pulled inward on the perimeter columns, causing them to bow and buckle. Once a section of the upper floors began to move downward, the weight of the floors above created a chain reaction, leading to a total progressive collapse of each tower. Outcome: The South Tower collapsed first because it sustained more severe structural damage from the initial impact. The official investigations by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) confirmed that the combination of structural damage and fire-induced weakening was the cause of the collapse. WALM:A B-25 weighed 20,500 Lbs while the lightest B-767 weighs in at 282,000 Lbs. Additionally, the cruising speed of the 767 was likely twice that of the B-25 at the time of impact. If you believe basic laws of physics, the plane that struck the empire state building did so with about 1/20th the force of the plane which struck either WTC tower. Of course, this also does not take into account the relative volume of and flamability of the remaining fuel on the planes involved. |
