Interesting.

Beacon? I think Cortelyounext lives there.

Did you take the J train while living in Woodhaven?

My friend made Holy Communion in 1980. His parents were going to cater from there but it didn't happen.

Knickerbocker and Bushwick are a unique blend of Hipsters and Hispanics. Fewer Puerto Ricans than before but lots of Mexicans and Central Americans.

I was on Hart St and Knickerbocker and noticed a tall slender white female. I don't think she was flattered by my attention.

Few franchises. Starbucks finally opened on Myrtle and Knickerbocker.

Lots of construction on the M. Metal sheets underneath the structure.

I haven’t been around there in a good long while. I can imagine it has gone through some major changes.

"Did you take the J train while living in Woodhaven?"

Yes, once in a while. Slow pokey ride to Fulton St. Going home at midnight was a trip. Going thru some of the worst neighborhoods in the city, I'd ride in the conductor car. He'd lock himself in until he had to leave to open the other side. Often I'd ride in a train with mixed R16 & R27s.
Other than that I'd take the Q11 Woodhaven Blvd Green bus to Woodhaven & Queens Blvd. to switch to the IND to 74th St & change for the #7 That was even slower

You were a conductor for MNRR IIRC.

I don't remember mixed R16 and R27/30 pairs.

The young female hipster was about 5'10 wearing yoga pants.

Yes the area has changed.

A pet store named Bushwick Bark.

An upscale butcher shop named Foster & Sundry. It's just three doors from Joe and Mary's which is still empty.

Yep. Them along with Queens, Steinway, Triboro, & Jamaica Buses being the private bus companies that ran in Queens and parts of Brooklyn & Nassau counties before the MTA took them over. As a kid I'd look at their license plates and they always read "Fran-Bus" not knowing then what the "Fran" meant.
Later to learn it meant Franchised.

The Green buses were so banged up in the 80s and the 90s. I was enchanted by those GM and Flxibles.

Was the coffee processor along the abandoned LIRR Rockaway ROW?

It's interesting to note how many old factories are alongside the abandoned LIRR ROW, including a smoking pipe factory at Park Lane South.

I accepted and accomplished your challenge with minimal effort.

I went to a small Piggly Wiggly.

We have jugs of tallow and lard

And, for all of your needs, a can of duck fat. Looks like a whipped cream spray can for those romantic evenings.

I guarantee I can find it in those stores that advertise plastic jugs of pigs blood too.

I thought piggly wiggly was supposed to be kind of yokal, but they're independently operated and this one is really upscale, and expensive, with lots of random labels not found at big chains.
Yet they sell lard and tallow.

The Duck Fat mimics luch's claim as well, "keto & paleo".

Now if only Winn Dixie would get itself together.

I know a few Catholics who actually think we should not eat pork because of this.

Pork has been a staple source of protein in Europe and Asia for centuries.

I apologize for the belated response. There was no lard to be found at the Shop Rite in New Paltz, New York - I even asked someone stocking shelves and one of the cashiers. I was over in Kingston to look at the Catskill Mountain Railway train and to attend the Model Train and Railroad Show™ and then headed over to SUNY New Paltz to watch them get hammered by Montclair State lacrosse. As an aside, as I drove through New Paltz not far from the campus there was a pro-Palestinian demonstration going on by what appeared to be the student body holding signs and bullhorns and singing songs.

™ I saw the train in layup at Kingston Plaza but for some reason my dates for the show were wrong. The exhibit is scheduled for this weekend but I'll be out in Denver and Vancouver.

They were wearing the neo-nazi scarfs, looked either fat or really ugly, and chanting about segregation and slaughtering races they dislike?
