Most Brooklyn Dodger fans still with us have most likely moved away, living with their kids or in assisted living. Funny nobody seems to care about the NY Giants baseball team to the degree that the Brooklyn Dodgers get. No ongoing debate about the reason for leaving, or assigning blame like you had (have) to O'Malley, Moses or then Mayor Wagner. The Giants just left town and that was it. |

Maybe they weren't a very good team at the time? Or not many people were going to games? The design of the stadium sure was a little weird. |

Its true they played in an ancient ballpark, but so did the Dodgers. Its been said when the Dodgers left for LA, it ripped the heart and soul out of Brooklyn. There was no such outcry when the Giants left. IIRC the last game the Giants played in the Polo Grounds, only a few thousand showed up.Not much of a sendoff. Dont let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya. |

It helps that the Dodgers beat the Yankees and actually win the World Series. After finally reaching the top after being underdogs for so long, I can see how the shock of having the team taken away from the fans at the team's peak would've been devastating. It sure didn't help that the Polo Grounds had zero parking. A picture was posted on subchat, I think, that showed parked cars crowded on the streets above the stadium. |

Horace Stoneham, the owner of the Giants, was in talks to move the team to the Twin Cities (Minnesota Giants). When O’Malley decided to move to LA, he convinced him to move to SF instead because the other NL owners would have been more amenable to two teams moving to California since an eastern team could travel west to play two teams. |

I thought they were only allowed to name streets after dead people. Guess they made an exception because he was alive when the street was named.Anyway, that was the excuse they used when they were asked to co-name the last block of Coney Island Avenue after Neil Sedaka. So the Department of Parks put up a sign instead which I don’t know if it’s still there. |

From the useless trivia dept...The Brooklyn Dodgers were the only baseball franchise that moved while still making money. Any other baseball clubs that moved were moneylosers where they played. |

My father took us to a Met game at the Polo Grounds (I was pissed as I wanted to go by subway) and we parked close to Yankee Stadium and walked across the bridge along with hundreds of others. |
