Yeah, Chicago had them too, plus Lawrence (Kansas), and reportedly on Public Service Coordinated Transport and New Jersey DOT (pre-NJT) buses as well.

Thanks for posting and sharing these great images on this forum too!

You're welcome. San Diego had M-A-N artics as well. Also, Golden Gate Transit had some, those were sold to RTD shortly before the 1984 Summer Olympics and numbered 9250-9259.

BTW, the route 91 on the sign is a different route, L. A.-Sunland via La Cresenta Blvd (replaced the 56L on June 21, 1981) The 90 was the old 56P, L. A. Sunland via Pennsylvania Av. On that date, the old 91 became to 1. The old 91 had two branches, the 91W and 91S. Both shared the same route from downtown LA Hill St/Venice Blvd to Hollywood Blvd/La Brea Av. At that point, the 91W went south on La Brea to Sunset Blvd, west on Sunset Blvd to Fairfax Av, south on Fairfax Av to Santa Monica Blvd, and out Santa Monica Blvd to Century City. The 91S continued west on Hollywood Blvd to Fairfax Av, then down Fairfax to Sunset Blvd, then out Sunset Blvd to Beverly Dr (I think) and down Beverly Dr to Pico Blvd in Beverly Hills. The 1 line went on Hollywood Blvd to Fairfax, Fairfax to Santa Monica Blvd, then Santa Monica out to Century City. The Sunset Blvd portions were replaced by the 2 and the 3. The 2 went all the way out Sunset, diverged to serve the UCLA campus, then back on Sunset to the end at Pacific Coast Highway. The 3 turned on Beverly Dr and went the route of the old 91S.

Sorry, didn't think it would be that wrong. Oh, and if anyone wants to say this belongs in BusChat, save it. You're not the boss of me.

Thanks for your insights on the Los Angeles bus scene with its rich and glorious past. The current route and schedule structure on the LA Metro system seem to no longer have a bus line #1, plus skipping plenty of available route numbers though.

Metro Los Angeles - Maps and Schedules.

One last image item from the Metro Los Angeles Library Archives, and it is a hoot, with this insight. If Colonel Hogan (actor Bob Crane) did finally leave (or escape) from Stalag 13, this SCRTD Flxible bus #6220 would have been waiting for him on the lot, and to ride off on its route #26 (as seen on the front sign).

NYC is the greatest city in the world, while we are at it...

It was for much of the 20th Century, but hasn't been for decades. The infrastructure, including the decaying subway, is too poor for it to be compared favorably. The quality of life in NYC has never been the greatest, but it was worth the sacrifice for the world class experiences available. What's left now in NYC that's truly world class? Live performances, fine dining, luxury high rises, finance, and maybe other pursuits of the 1%? Ok, but not so much for the average NYer.

Yes, the 1 was absorbed into the 217 (at least on Hollywood Blvd). It was decided that it didn't need to travel all the way to downtown LA via Sunset Blvd, since you had the 2/3 and 4 on the same route, and of course, the Red B line serving downtown LA from Hollywood, albeit on a different route. I will have been gone from Southern California 24 years on July 4th, and while many of the core routes are pretty much the same, there are so many I never heard of.

Re: the Bob Crane/6220 pic, obviously a publicity photo. In real life, the old 26 (East 1st - West Pico Blvd, successor to the P streetcar route) would have not shown a destination of "LOS ANGELES", i.e. downtown LA, as all runs were through-routed the downtown area, at least when I was out there.
