I can see young people struggling like this. If they're seven years old. These guys weren't the brightest.

That said, I can see where many kids under 16 may have never used a landline and many never even seen one used.

The video tried to get these kids to figure it out without teaching it. The boomers are apoplectic that someone could be a teenager without having previously learned how to use a rotary phone.

But even if they don't get the actual dialing right away, surely they have used land-line phones before and should know you have to pick up the receiver before dialing (with or without an actual dial)?

That's the part that gets me, we all know you have to pick up the phone to dial, (wired phone).

On my portables, I lift it out of the charging base, then push the buttons to dial. Seems intuiaive?

My parents still have a landline. One day, my (then) first-grader nephew cane over to their house, picked up the phone, put it to his ear, and said, "Grandma, the phone is making a funny buzzing noise".

Up until then, he'd never heard a dial tone in his entire life...

20 years ago it already was not "buzzing". In the 1950s and most of the '60s (depending on your phone exchange), it was. Old electro-mechanical exchanges produced a buzzing dial tone. Electronic exchanges produce a dial tone that sounds not too different than the sound made when a Touch-Tone button is pressed.

"Nobody has commented on the fact that these dumbasses tried to dial without picking up the phone. Which means they can’t even use a regular modern landline touch tone.* That’s why I agree with Bill that they’re retards. And yet they somehow though that picking up and putting down the receiver “reset” the phone after a misdial? Have these jackasses ever heard a dial tone in their life?"

About 20 years ago I was visiting my folks in Smithtown. They were packing up to move to Florida and were throwing out cubic yard after cubic yard of junk (my mother was a bit of a hoarder). My youngest brother was there with his two kids, I guess about 5 and 8 at that time.

In one box of junk was an old rotary phone. The kids were playing with it. They were pushing their fingers into the holes because all they knew were push button phones. I laughed and showed them how to use the dial. The looks of amazement I got..."What type of sorcery is this!?" was on their faces!

Also, on a standard landline on NYNEX/Verizon, you could dial 951 and an automated voice would recite your phone number. Since most (if not all) standard landlines have been retired, I don't know if it still works.

I received my electric bill. I used almost 60 more Kilowatt Hours this year over last year. There were a few more warm days, but I'm going to make sure I'm not leaving something on or plugged in that I wasn't using last year.

You, on the other hand, wouldn't even bother because you feel you can afford the extra 10 dollars, and if they raise the rates who cares. While, as a typical demonkkkrat, spider-pig wouldn't even consider the environment or the resources from using more power.

This is why Orange Blossom Special will always be far superior to the hypocritical Spider Pig. Even if the Paris Accord would ration his heat this winter, which it wouldn't have.

That's not a fair comparison. There really wasn't anything to learn. Instead of dialing, you just pressed the buttons. Nothing to learn. You knew you had to first pick up the receiver and keep it off the hook.. These kids wouldn't know that is the first step.

The only difference between a twisted pair copper landline without DSL is the data frequency are disabled down stream of the MUX in the fiber to copper media converter box.

The fiber to copper media converter box where I live is 3/8 of a mile to the east, the TELCO switch 7 mile further east.
