I saw a demonstration of churning butter when I was in kindergarten. It wasn't really meant as a practical skill I would be likely to need, just for understanding how things once were, and what the less obvious physical properties of milk or cream still were. |

In the 1950s and most of the '60s (depending on your phone exchange), it was. Old electro-mechanical exchanges produced a buzzing dial tone. Electronic exchanges produce a dial tone that sounds not too different than the sound made when a Touch-Tone button is pressed. |

About 20 years ago I was visiting my folks in Smithtown. They were packing up to move to Florida and were throwing out cubic yard after cubic yard of junk (my mother was a bit of a hoarder). My youngest brother was there with his two kids, I guess about 5 and 8 at that time.In one box of junk was an old rotary phone. The kids were playing with it. They were pushing their fingers into the holes because all they knew were push button phones. I laughed and showed them how to use the dial. The looks of amazement I got..."What type of sorcery is this!?" was on their faces! |

While, as a typical demonkkkrat, spider-pig wouldn't even consider the environment or the resources from using more power. The fiber to copper media converter box where I live is 3/8 of a mile to the east, the TELCO switch 7 mile further east.
