Right after The Holiday?I'll point out one thing. I have a book where the gentleman tells a story of how he was appalled that church leaders visited Israel I believe decades ago. They wanted to have meetings on the Saturday so as not to interfere with their Sunday plans. They got it! I just saw a magazine article that was published over the summer. They wanted to do the same thing in New York with the WZO or some other group, I cannot remember. One staffer said no. This was a big deal and I think he was seen as a radical and had to move on. This meeting was to open the archives to learn about activities during the Nazi's. This goes on with all of these Jewish secularists. Just because you don't have peyos and don't live in a succah doesn't mean you should bend over backwards to nullify yourself. Have a spine, take the one day off and pass on the sausages. |

Ivanka Trump wrote an article about how much she loves having the guaranteed family time per week. Which is great, because it leads me back to the book in the other example I posted. He has another chapter where he complains about the person who makes up excuses for not hanging out with colleges on Fridays after work by calling it "family time" instead of calling it by name. There's probably a whole series of conversations here depending on whatever hypothetical you want to use. But really, if you are meeting someone and are representing Jews in some capacity, at least stick to the culture. The church knows that Saturday is the special day; don't give them the satisfaction of the win. The Arab's know what a swastika is. Don't give them a win either. Both of them will fight you tooth and nail over something even symbolically smaller. We're not exactly talking about going to one of those seminars for financial advice for the free dinner here or hanging with colleges instead of going to "family time". |

The morning will stretch until like 2. And anything else depends upon when sunset is. And some people joke that it's a mitzvah to nap afterwards. Though it's probably true. "Work" is not what is prohibited. Could depend on how stringent you are? I **KNOW** someone else could answer that. All I know is work is work, if you're being paid to do it. The subject isn't up my alley, but I have three places I could hopefully find that addresses this issue, but I can't look until later so I'll have to come back to it. It's the day He ceases from creation, so if you want to get into technicalities, it stems from creating right there. |

This is "interesting" because you bring up the 39 definitions of working, which has 39 sub-rules, etc. But none of them actually say "work". And I'm sure no one wants an essay nor am I qualified."From finding your desires and speaking of matters" Yeshaya 58:13; and Chazal elucidated, "Your desires are forbidden, the desires of the heaven are permitted" (Shabbat 113b). From here, it says the prohibition of all business is derived, including things that could lead to business. It doesn't say here, but I would make a guess that this is where "to guard" the Shabbat comes in. (which, now I'm seeing on another page). I was going to look for two lines I saw earlier about a "day of rest", but I think this will be better. "Remember the Shabbat and keep it holy" Shmot 20:8 Holy being Kodosh or separate. Lot of the rules deal with separating the mundane-ness of the weekday and not letting it into Saturdays at all. That's from a book where I evidently do 400 pages of things wrong. But I do hope to find out where the link is between the 39 and the separation and rest on Sunday. |
