One has a kid with CF, and she had to move out west to Vancouver because that's where the hospital that could take care of her daughter is. Another one had to wait almost a year to get a hernia surgery. They say for routine checkups, it's ok, but if you need something done, they'll pencil you in when they get to it |

I was there twice, once as a kid in 1966 and as a bigger kid in 1978. Take the train & enjoy the ride up the Hudson & across New York State while enjoying a few adult beveridges & whatever passes for food on Amtrak these days. Stay on the Canadian side. Soak in everything, then rent a car & make a day trip on the QEW highway to Toronto. Nice scenery on the Canadian side of lake Ontario. Toronto is a nice town & one of the cleanest I've ever been in.Its a good vacation that won't cost you serious bucks. Just make sure you get Canadian currency ( and passport) before you leave. I don't know what the exchange rate is but if you buy something there & pay with American greenbacks, your change will be in the form of Canadian paper with Queen portraits which spells ripoff to the low information tourist. Thats discovered when they convert it back to US legal tender. Its a trip you won't regret. |

But I did make an exception for Niagara. Beaches and Disney never did it for me.Don't know if it's relatable, but I liked that I can drive in rush hour and actually get somewhere. The US auto industry converted to the metric system decades ago to save money. So have most other manufacturers. The only thing in favor of the English system is that feet and pounds are more useful measures for everyday life than meters and kilograms. At the risk of getting on-topic, a key issue in sizing subway car motors is the formula F=ma. Do you even know how to figure out what your mass is in slugs (the English system unit for mass)? |

Watts are both newton meters (joules) per second and volt amps. Thus electric supply can be translated directly to energy and force with a formula that a fourth grader can master. |

There's no reason to keep using the English system day to day.Switching to kilometers might make it clear to more people how unnecessarily low US speed limits are compared to European speed limits. |
