Statistics don't "prove" a particular POV, they demonstrate information that can be interpreted along with other information.Anyway, the statistics (2003) show that blacks killed by police are about 35% of the blacks & whites combined killed by police. Blacks are something around 12% of the population. But ... (same 2003 FBI info) the overall number of blacks murdered (2,491) vs. whites murdered (3,005) means that more than 45% of murder victims are black. And ... of the perpetrators of the murders (total 5,499 B & W) 2,654 (48%) were black yet 35% of those killed by police were black. So now what do the statistics "prove"? And why do you find the police shooting statistics as "basis for all of the anger and the #blacklivesmatter movement." What it shows me once again is that police shooting of blacks are the only shooting of blacks that "matter" to the movement. |

Ras As as an inability to, or ignorance driven abscence of desire to follow up with officers on their patrols as to attitudes and experiences encountered and their attitudes about them. That's something seen in a lot of cops, and they have to way to disperse and undestnd that negativity, so they harbor it and we end up seeing behaviors such as we see in Baton Rouge and MN. |

IMO there's a lot of cops out there who shouldn't be cops. Officer's who are scared of ppl who don't look like them or only perception they have of ppl of color bf joining is what they see on tv (if it bleeds it leads) and they take that into these neighborhoods. Many of these types of cops are probably correct they feared for their life but really its not hard to fear for your life dealing with people you are already afraid of due to preconceived prejudices to begin with. |

The shooting of unarmed blacks is now readily reported and emphasized; shooting an unarmed white is not considered interesting. AFAIK there is no organization that complains when an unarmed white is shot; and, if there were, it would be called out as racist. |

At the same time, there's no evidnce he had it out during the police encounter that ended his life. It was found on his body. The full encounter, of less than a minute, is on two videos.The gentleman in Minnesota was apparently shot at close range while he was in the drives seat of his car, in a seatbelt. There is video of his body as he died, and surrounding events taken by a passenger who witnessed the entire encounter. The man was shot when he reached for his wallet with license and registration. |

That's hard to say, which is why I havn' said anything beyond that a gun was found in his pants pocket. I do not recall any word that it was out during the lethal encounter. From what I saw, they came up to the guy, pinned hin to the ground and shot him five times. I do not know what was said.. It looks just like the "mob hits" you see in the movies. Except a man lost his life, and it appears very unjustified. |

The witness who called 911 told the operator that Sterling lifted his shirt; showed the witness a gun; and told the witness to leave him (Sterling) alone. I haven't seen or heard anything that said Sterling pulled his gun on the cops.I'm surprised the cops didn't Tase him. |

I know there's a witness to the MN shooting. The only question there is did the driver state he was getting or was he asked / ordered to provide his license and registration? If that's the case (the video here began after Mr Castile was shot when he reached for his wallet, while he was still in his seatbelt) then this is nothing beyond a cold blooded murder.I will say the powers that be are handling it much better, with a quick and quite transparent investigation that is addressing concerns. We don't hear or see anything of the sort out of Baton Rouge. In fact, it seems as if they're busy attempting to cover it all up anyway they can find. |
