Why do unarmed blacks get shot at a much higher rate than unarmed whites?

Can you back that up statistically? The shooting of unarmed blacks is now readily reported and emphasized; shooting an unarmed white is not considered interesting. AFAIK there is no organization that complains when an unarmed white is shot; and, if there were, it would be called out as racist.
