The Staten Island Expressway comes to mind.Keep in mind that "design speed" refers to standards at the time when said highways were initially built. A 70mph highway design speed for a car made in the 1930s-50s is certainly different than what's necessary for today's technologically advance vehicles.There were also many safety improvements made to the highways over the years. |
