It actually nearly made me sick when I noticed it at the dealership last year. I think it's good for my 6 year old cousin, and thats just about it.My Trail Blazer EXT has a third row, and while it's not horrible, the legroom isn't that great. I'm usually driving it anyway, so I don't notice, but the few times I have sat back there, it gets uncomfortable after about an hour. I think the reason for this third row fetish is because younger people happen to like their own personal space. Think about it, most families have about 3-4 children these days. For a family of 3, squeezing all three kids in one middle row is possible, but can be uncomfortable. And uncomfortable kids = annoyed parents. Why not just throw in a small 3rd row for at least one of those kids to sit in. That way, two kids have a nice amount of space in the middle row, and one gets the back. Also, 3rd rows often fold in halves, so cargo space doesnt have to be sacraficed for one passenger to be in the rear. One would think that those families would simply opt for a minivan, but Americans like sport utilities, despite high fuel prices. I happen to enjoy driving an SUV myself, despite the whole roll over thing. If you know how to drive it properly, it wont roll over anyway. On a recent trip to Lake Placid, me and one of my brothers sat in the middle row of our truck and my other brother sat in the back on one half of the back row. We folded the other half down to accomodate more luggage. |
