Let's assume for the sake of argument that Obama's entire response to the birther issue was based on political motives.Would that be legit? I would say yes. We all agree that politics is part of life, and that making your opponents look like idiots is part of the game. Obama refuted the ineligibility question with a legal document. It was good enough to get him a passport, after all. It was good enough that no Secretary of State challenged his position on the ballot. So he actually made a good faith attempt to address the real legal issue. But he didn't go one step further and release one additional document that has no greater legal value. He wanted to make his opponents look like idiots. Is that wrong? Hint: if you say yes, there are thousands of examples of other politicians doing things just to make their opponents look like idiots. |
