I'm asking trainsarefun for proff as to why he believes Obama to have been the greatest beneficiary of affirmative action in history.

It worked out such that he's President, right? Second biggest beneficiary would have to be Clarence Thomas. As to both men, it's very doubtful that they're admitted to the law schools that gain them the pedigree that they use for higher office (HLS for Obama, YLS for Thomas) on purely academic grounds. Sure, one could say that others are admitted on non-academic grounds too, which is true, but that doesn't make these cases not instances of affirmative action.

Other things too. President Obama touts the fact that he was a constitutional law professor at Chicago, another one of the nation's finest law schools. But his appointment as Lecturer was transparently affirmative action. Mind you, private institutions have the freedom to do that - I still think that it's a bad idea - but nothing in Barack Obama's CV remotely justified that appointment - he had more than enough to be an adjunct as an HLS graduate, but not a lecturer. He published one short article, hardly the makings of an academic.

Then you also had fawning over Mr. Obama no doubt because his candidacy somehow meant 'our nation coming to terms with race', whatever that means.

Mind you, affirmative action gave President Obama admittance. What he did therafter, although affirmative action admittances are traditionally shown favoritism, was no doubt due in significant part to his own efforts. But without affirmative action getting him that foot in the door, his spot at Columbia, at Harvard, at Chicago, to cultivate his circle of friends and associates, etc, he would never become Senator from Illinois, let alone President.
