Correct. It's actually the same reason that Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize after being in office less than a month.I don't think that (racial-based) affirmative action was the direct cause of that at all, it was the cause of Barack Obama becoming President, but not of being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Rather, his speeches on the campaign trail against President Bush did that. Mind you, I'm sure that a good number of those who voted for Barack Obama to receive the prize wouldn't now vote for him now that they have seen the comparison between their preferences and the man's performance in office. The integrity of that prize is gone for ever because of that absurd occurrence. The integrity of the Nobel Peace Prize was hit long before that, many times. It's the political Nobel and sadly, the one that gets the most attention. The guys who toil for years in medicine, chemistry, literature, economics, and physics, who really deserve the popular recognition rarely ever get it, though the money's not bad at all. |
