Re: Mob takes over Eliot and 69th St in Middle Village

Let's be clear: there were scores, maybe hundreds of people out there. And 1 Palestinian flag. That means this car meet was not a pro-Palestinian rally.

Rather it was an act of Civil Disobedience. The exact same thing that happened not so long ago in Bayside and Whitestone.

On various Maspeth area Facebook forums and from NYPD themselves, there has been different versions of police time response. Once the first car arrived, IDK what the innocents expected the cops to do? Take them all on? Of course hey don't want to be injured! Are they supposed to take their guns out and start shooting? Many of you would say yes!

The bottom line is Maspeth/Ridgewood/Middle Village, the confines of the 104th, is a large area. Not many north/south thru streets available to move around. Only Fresh Pond Rd, Forest Ave., then 80th St. Most of the action is in Ridgewood so when stuff happens in Maspeth/Middle Village we're screwed.

There are no patrols. When I drive around the area, very seldom do I see a patrol car because they are always busy answering and tied up with 311 and 911 calls for hours at a time. What is the percentage of cops on duty on the street answering these calls vs. the number who work in the precinct and never leave unless there is an extreme emergency? We will never get the answer from the Commanding Officer. This is the fault of how NYPD is set up, and not the cop on the street.

Speaking of lack of patrols: all we have is red light and speed camera's. Never a cop pulling anyone over for a traffic violation. The interaction between a motorist and a cop with other motorists witnessing this is THE best deterrent for motorists to follow traffic laws and drive defensively. But we never see a cop pull anyone over for a violation anymore.

Call 311 for a fire hydrant violation, and get a rext message answer that tells you that no violation has occurred yet the offender is even there. Look out the window and I see the offender is indeed still there.

I can go on and on. Unnecessary horn blowing. According to NY State, horn blowing is for danger only, not because you're in a hurry and start leaning on the horn! Never enforced.

Blocking intersections: state law is you don't block it if you can't clear it! Never enforced. Maspeth by the LIE, Hamilton Place over the LIE and Flushin Ave. from 61st St. to where it merges with Grand Ave. to the LIE is a disaster on most PM Rush Hours. No enforcement whatsoever. WE NEED COPS.

Following Saturday night and fierce community opposition to IBX, our property values are plummeting along with For Sale Signs on houses about to go up very soon.
