They're not delusional as a rule. But I am sincerely convinced that social contagion has caused many more people to identify as "transgender" than is really the case, and this is also happening to people who are mentally ill in other ways and convince themselves that "transition" will solve their problems when it won't.

But the problem with using flimsy mental health criteria to restrict basic constitutional rights is that people will be discouraged from seeking mental health assistance lest they be flagged as mentally ill and lose a valuable constitutional right. The right to keep and bear arms should only be restricted as punishment for a crime.
