Lard. When you think of foods that are fattening and clog arteries, lard, bacon, and butter come to mind. Lard, in particular, is a product that isn't always easy to find. And if you do, it's just one name brand, Armour, and it's highly processed. It will be hydrogenated with several added ingredients. As an ingredient, I never ever see it in processed food. Even baked products like cookies and cakes. On shelves it's getting harder and harder to find. For example, I went to Stop-N-Shop in Glendale. Both locations. One on Myrtle and the one on Union Turnpike next to the LIRR Rockaway ROW where I did some observing of the abandoned line. Stop-N-Shop does not carry lard. What the fuck? Seriously. While visiting family in Pennsylvania, it was similar. Giant and Weis didn't carry lard. One ShopRite did and the other didn't. So I'm asking my fellow chatters, to check for lard on your next shopping trip, and let me know if your supermarket carries it. And if so, what brand(s). |
