I agree with you almost:

–We need nuclear power in the short term. I still want someone to show me that it’s energy positive in the long term:

(Energy Cost of Building Plant)+(Energy Cost of Refining Uranium)+(Energy Cost of Building Long-term Radionucleide Storage)>(Energy from Fission)

—I would still like to see some form of sustainable agri-feedstock. I don’t know what it is—I don’t think we, as a human race, have found it or developed it yet. Something that we can use to feed distillation plants and naphtha crackers. We still need plastics.

Ethanol from corn, which is just a subsidy to the big square states is not the solution. Ethanol from something else, maybe through fermentation, could be. Cows fart methane. Maybe we could look at the bacteria that produce the methane and isolate them so we can produce a high-quality source (though the image of Selkirk’s cows with collection tubes up their butts is somewhat entertaining…in a Kentucky-Fried movie sort of way)

Hydrogen could play a part, but not hydrogen derived from oil.

I do believe that we are not treating the energy problem seriously. The current “we’ll have hydrogen in 2020 but carry on with your SUV until then” mentality isn’t going to help the human race at all!
