Agreed. I don’t know that I would have done anything differently.

But he didn’t make you do anything that you didn’t want to do. That cop didn’t do anything wrong because he asked and you complied. It becomes an issue if you politely declined and then he forced you to do something. There’s nothing wrong with politely declining an officers request imo. And sometimes it makes sense to do so because they can and will be assholes.
