I really hate to say this, but how many times have the police killed people of color, often on video in living color, with almost total impunity? I don't think more violence is the answer, but I knew something like the Dallas shootings might happen someday. It's horrifying that so many police officers were shot and killed, and it will only make a bad situation on both sides worse. I fully expect the police to respond in kind, and we will be reading about still more bloodshed before too long. Until we learn to respect each other as human beings--the Dallas snipers didn't care who they hit, nor was the cop who shot Philemon Castile the least bit concerned with the life of a four year old child sitting in the car he fired his gun into, to cite just two examples--there won't be any resolution forthcoming. It's easy to think, "well, the cops got a taste of their own medicine", but that's never going to bring back those who died, nor will it actually change anything for the better. |
