For once Olog is basically right.If the term was started by the Army to describe a grenade launcher (which are not legal) but not the M16 itself, then it goes without saying that the M16 and its equivalents are not assault weapons. The term as applied to regular semi-automatic weapons has been made up by the media and by the anti-Second Amendment crowd. |
